Diploma in Marine Engineering in Bangladesh

The Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology (BIMT) is a government-run institution established in 1958 to cater to the needs of local and foreign manpower in the operation of marine vessels, maintenance and construction of local and ocean-going vessels. BIMT is playing an important role in the development and improvement of shipping services in Bangladesh. The institute is conducting four more trade courses related to marine technology as well as two “Diploma in Engineering” courses aimed at building skilled manpower in the shipping sector. The trainees are being recruited both in the domestic shipping sector and in foreign employment. The duration of Diploma in Engineering course is now 4 years. Other trade courses are valid for two years each. The employment rate of BIMT graduates is over 90% in both local and foreign fields.

BIMT is located on Shitalakshya river in Bandar upazila. Narayanganj city on the other side of the river is easily accessible by boat. The Tribeni Canal marks the southern boundary of the campus.

The labs of physics and chemistry are beautifully arranged with various instruments. A student can easily learn how to take measurements of different scales. Not only this, the workshop is also the best in our country. Powerful diesel engine, I.C. Engines are available in this store. Needless to say, the welding shop of this institute is the largest in our country. A student gets a lot of time for welding which helps them to become skilled welders. CNC lathe M / C, CNC cutting M / C is also provided here. A large M / C shop well equipped with lathes, shaper grinding, drilling M / C. TIG, MIG and MAG welding are specially arranged.

The Marine Institute student lives in a beautiful hostel with many facilities like current, water, a powerful generator for the students. The old hostel can easily accommodate up to 200 students, while the other students stay in the new hostel on the banks of the Shitalakshya River. A dining hall has been arranged and it is operated by a special cooker.
